HotLink FAQ

Power your HOTLINK by connecting a power cable to the 2-pin LEMO connector OR the USB mini (+ 5V) - ideal for gimbals and drones. The blue LED power indicator will light up when the HOTLINK has power.

The HOTLINK takes + 5-17.5 VOLTS via the 2-pin LEMO with pin 1 = GND - same as RED, ARRI, TERADEK & PARALINX so power cables for these products all work wit the HOTLINK.

The HOTLINK does feature reverse polarity protection on both the LEMO and the USB mini port. Do NOT connect a 4-pin LEMO power cable into the rs232 port of the HOTLINK or you will damage the unit.

OFFHOLLYWOOD sells many cable options to power the HOTLINK on our store - including 4-pin to 2-pin LEMO power cables for powering the HOTLINK from the RED +1 Module, in addition to 2-pin LEMO Crossover Cables (pin 1 = + 11-17.5V) for powering from LETUS HELIX.

+ Does the HOTLINK have reverse polarity power protection?

The HOTLINK does feature reverse polarity protection on both the LEMO and the USB mini port. Do NOT connect a 4-pin LEMO power cable into the rs232 port of the HOTLINK or you will damage the unit.

No. The HOTBOX replacement fuses sold on the OFFHOLLYWOOD store are only for the HOTBOX. The HOTLINK has reverse polarity protection and a power regulator and does not distribute power like the HOTBOX so it does not require a fuse.

+ I forgot my password to log in and change settings on my HOTLINK, what do I do?

If you would like to RESTORE the HOTLINK back to the FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS - which include naming the device "HOTLINK" and resetting the administration password and login to admin, admin - just insert a pen or paper clip into the RESET button next to the blue LED and hold down for 3 seconds.

This will reset and restore your HOTLINK for the FACTORY DEFAULT SETTINGS.

There will NOT be any visual indication (flashing LED, etc.) - just hold down the button for three seconds and the HOTLINK will automatically restart with the default settings.

+ How many HOTLINKS can be assigned to a router and accessed by a single control application?

As many as you want :)

The WiFi on the HOTLINK is 2.4GHz - 802.11b/g/n

Range depends on interferance, antennas, etc. - but in our real world tests with the included 1" antenna we would see loss of signal at approx. 75 feet. So we like to recommend 50ft or less. You can extend the range by connecting your HOTLINK to a powerful router and then connecting your computer or iOS device to that router. We strongly recommend the ASUS RT-AC87U.

Foolcontrol (both OSX and iOS) will automatically search for HOTLINKs and auto connect. Just make sure the computer or iOS device is connected to the HOTLINK's network - OR - a router that the HOTLINK(s) are connected to.

Also make sure that you have enabled REDLINK COMMAND PROTOCOL from the drop down menu under the SET UP > COMMUNICATION > SERIAL on the DSMC camera per the HotLink QuickStart Guide.

+ How do I connect to RCP apps other than FOOLCONTROL?

Currently the only RCP applictaion that auto detects the HOTLINK is FOOLCONTROL iOS and FOOLCONTROL OSX.

Other RCP applications need to be connected via manually entering the IP address of the HOTLINK into the application - the IP address of the HOTLINK is 10.10.100.254 and it is engraved on the back of the unit.

If you are using multiple HOTLINKs - and want to access more than one from a single computer or iOS device - you will need to assign them to router which will assing the HOTLINK an additional IP address via DHCP.

The HOTLINK runs in a "AP + STA" mode which allows you to ALWAYS access it by connecting directly to it via the 10.10.100.254 IP address. If it has been assigned an IP from a router - you can also connect to the HOTLINK by connecting your device or computer to the router.

+ How do I RESET my HOTLINK to the factory default settings?

+ Does the HOTLINK work on other cameras?

+ Can I make my own DSMC Serial Cables?

Yes. The DSMC Serial cable used for the HOTLINK is a 00 4-pin LEMO connector wired pin-to-pin to a 0B 4-pin LEMO connector. We reccomend you use OFFHOLLYWOOD's HOTLINK to DSMC Serial Cables and they can be made to order in any custom length.

+ Can I access the CONFIG TOOL via the USB Mini port?

No. You can only access the CONFIG TOOL via WIFI connected to the device via the IP address.
