Teradek has upgraded and increased functionality in their BOLT wireless video tramitter and receiver. Modifications to the product increase range and reduce interference and power management has also been upgraded. But the biggest news is that they have added TIMECODE and META-DATA functionality! This means that when shooting EPIC you can get your filename, timecode and start/stop trigger wirelessly now. Until now, we have only been able to do this with BOXX wireless systems which cost over $15,000 for a transmitter and reciever (we rent BOXX at OFFHOLLYWOOD) compared to the BOLT, which is less than $2500 and tiny - fits in the palm of your hand and even has re-chargable internal power if you want to go that way.
BOLT also works "one-to-many" - meaning you can have one transmitter sending video to multiple receivers.
So ... what is really cool about this is that you can attach a BOLT on your camera, then have one receiver connected to a Teradek CUBE - which does H264 Proxy recording that you can use to have instant iPad dailies and use LIVE PLAY 2.0 - AND have another receiver(s) attached to director's monitor, etc, - with zero frame delay.
Early BOLT customers can get their units upgraded for free - and recent customers can upgrade via a forthcoming firmware release - details should be available from Teradek shortly. Teradek is just finishing testing functionality with various recorders.
This is also a fantastic news for Video Assist operators using QTAKE - which was the first application to access RED's filename and record state triggers over SDI. Stay tuned for more details on QTAKE LITE and MORE from QTAKE later today -
