Vitec Technology Forum

I'm getting ready to head back into the city today after a few days at the Vitec Technology Forum. Highlights for me included getting to discuss and ask specific questions with respect to 3D production and delivery with 3ALITY DIGTAL and KERNER OPTICAL. Kerner is a R&D and "skunk works" spin-off of ILM based in San Rafael. I got to sit with Yushka "Joe" Siuicki and Melanie Ilich-Toay from Kerner at dinner and got answers to all the questions that have been on my mind with respect to the different systems. 3Ality has a big NAB annoucment coming and Kerner wil be renting their 3D beamsplitter rigs through BEXEL (a VITEC company). Offhollywood will be testing and shooting RED cameras on this rig very soon. Presentations were made with the new JVC 3D enabled LCDs - which looked fantastic. Another highlight was the dinner speaker - SHELLY PALMER. Shelly has a new book called "49 and Fucked" - and is the author of "Television Disrupted". He gave the BEST speech I ever heard about the state of media and the future of the digital revolution. Period. Shelly GETS IT - and an excellent public speaker. Shelly has a web show called MEDIABYTES that highlights FIVE things he think are relevant every day in media. You can get his PODCAST here. Also worth mentioning was a "lightning round" presentation by LITE PANELS - the world leader in LED lighting. I've used light panels before - but what was exciting to see was examples of entire sets being lit with these lights, which use VERY little power and are very small. They have a few new cool products, and I am anxious to work more with this technology. Jerry Gepner, who is stepping into an interim CEO position at Bexel,  did an amazing job putting the foum together and I consider myself lucky to have been invited. It's been an insane week so far - we are starting our biggest film ever this weekend on top of demoiltion and construction mayhem.  More to come ...
